    So recently i decided to swap my A7C for X-T5 for a better photography experience and the process itself. Im wondering wich of these lenses should i pick. Im right not at 35mm with Sony so id like to have around 35mm also at APSC. So 23mm-27mm And thats the wonder if i should pick Fuji 24mm 1.4 or Viltrox 27 1.2?

    I also wanted F0.95, but soon I realized that I live in a modern society, so I bought an autofocus F1.4, which captured a lot of things. If you purely pursue large aperture manual focus, there is also have f 0.7 Doesn't it?

    Unfortunately, it's not common knowledge how debilitating and life altering neck and back injuries could have on them until it does. As someone who has suffered from both, I always advise people to go as light as possible, use wheeled bags if they can, no messenger bags due to the uneven distribution of weight, starting off with a lightweight bag (when empty), and the importance of neck and back exercises, strength, mobility and stamina

      No, it’s carry on. It weighs under 10kg fully packed, and I always buy 14kg carry on option. In Australia we can take 2 bags for carry on, and max weight of the bag is 10kgs. I put my tripod, charger, and of stuff in my checked bag.

    Your bokeh comparison to 24mm f/2.8 to 35mm f/2.8 is rubbish. You get the same bokeh on APS-C it's just more zoomed in, so you need to switch those and compare 36mm APS-C f/2.8 to 24mm f/2.8 on FF and you will find they are the same, only zoomed in. When you use a Tamron 17-28mm, you don't get much bokeh. Get the Viltrox 16mm f/1.8 FF lens and Sigma 24mm and 50mm f/1.4 DG DN Art FF lenses or Sony Sonnar T* FE 55mm f/1.8 ZA Lens.

    You are in a privileged position where photography is your job and you have the opportunity to try different cameras. You are not making a mistake or doing anything wrong by having two different camera systems. What matter is what YOU like and makes you enjoy photography. Yes Sony has good AF and IQ, but Fujifilm has th tactile feels, ergonomics, film recipes, their colour science which adds a different dimension to the fun of taking pictures. I also feel like the Fujifilm community is the best in the hobby. There seems to be this unity and willingness to help and share. Do I wish the AF on the X-T5 was as good as the Sony? Of course. But I don't tend to take many pictures of fast moving objects so it doesn't matter to me a great deal. It's not like it's terrible, it's just not on the level of Sony and I really hope Fujifilm can get on top of it and make it competitive with Sony. But like I said, there are so many other things about Fujifilm that I love. I'm sure you will too.

    I started photography as a kid in the 70s. In high school I had a Pentax SLR with a 50mm lens. What camera to bring was easy. Camera, + one lens plus as much film as I had. Now that I am in my early 50's I own way too much stuff. Photography is a hobby but I am obsessed with it. About ten years ago I learned something interesting about myself. If I travel with one body and one wide lens + tripod , I will take fantastic photos that I am proud of. I learned that the less stuff I took, the better off I was. Now I travel with a beat up Leica M body with a single 21mm lens. If I need something digital I use my phone. I have the best time because everything is simple. Most of the time I don't even bring my backpack with me, I leave it at the hotel. I challenge anyone who reads this to just take a simple set up on a trip. You can walk further, and really focus on getting the photo with what you have. If you are worried about screwing up a once in a lifetime location, take this mindset and try it next time you're in a familiar location.

    Fine take on frequent YT bag theme. Appreciate your candor about injury and soaked bag. Experience is a terrific teacher. Ergonomics very much a personal choice - we have to make compromises. (No room for “kitchen sink” in typical bag.) How about doing a vid describing your film scanning/editing process? Flatbed scanner or DIY negative copy (such as with macro lens)? Cheers!

    So I don't know how heavy your camera bag is, but my camera bag filled with my camera, 4 prime lenses, accessories and audio (shotgun and rode wireless pro) did not break 20lbs. Obviously listen to your doctor, but I rarely see youtubers talk about the importance of working out and proper form for walking with a backpack which is an alternative to drastically lowering the load. For travel I have a light load because there are other reasons why it is important to do so, which is why I watched your video here in order to decide what lenses to bring. My current plan is to pair the nikon zf with a 40 f2 and 24-120.

    • @FullFrameStudio
      @FullFrameStudio 3 дні тому

      I've lugged around a 20lbs backpack manyyyy times before I got my nanuk 935 case. I shoot with my lumix s5ii, and primarily the 70-200 f4. They're a heavy combo. With my Wescot fjii and a 14inch MacBook, 20-60mm lens... That's a heavy backpack.

    • @gerardneedham
      @gerardneedham День тому

      Yeah so 20lbs is still way to heavy to have on your back, I did script this and wanted to add it but the video would be too long. The physiotherapist told me that the max weight of your camera bag should be under 2 kg, that’s only 4 pounds. So I used to be like, I’m tuff and strong I’m from NZ I can carry a 20kg (40lbs) bag no worrys, I deadlift 180kg maaaate. But in reality a heavy camera bag is terrible for you, compared to doing deadlifts at the gym

    Prime lens has the best detail sharpness and dept of field more. Zoom lens has more many lens inside making the distortion and blur when you shooting.

    • @gerardneedham
      @gerardneedham 4 дні тому

      Distortion is from small lens elements so it does depend on the zoom lens and a lot of primes have small rear elements which results in a lot of distortion, this also results in vignette, resulting in less sharp corners even after profile corrections The biggest difference for me personally is the background render, as zooms can have pretty messy bokeh compared to primes

  • @MarttiSuomivuori
    @MarttiSuomivuori 5 днів тому

    My first 40mm was a Zeiss Batis (for Sony). It is bulky. If you are used to 35mm, take a step back. The lens is anachronic. It is relaxed to shoot wis with less distortion than the 35mm. A Voigländer Nokton 40mm F/1.2 on the Leica stays on the camera for long periods of time. Liveview comes in useful as does Visoflex if you aim to modern camera sharpness level.

    Sorry champ, but Weddings are not the best way to start. You should have more respect for the couples. A wedding is the holy Grail and deserves someone with great experience and talent. Thinking of Wedding as a starting point is an insult to the client.

    • @gerardneedham
      @gerardneedham 5 днів тому

      I disagree, 100% I started carrying bag of a wedding photographer, then as a second shooter before I did weddings by myself. It’s not a hard gig when you have the experience, and people like your self who think you need to be A level photographer with 10+ year experience is straight up BS. Weddings are not the holy grail, you build up your prices as you go, when you reach the top you realise that what your charging and the amount out work you put in is a 1/10 of what recognised creative commercial photographers charge and the work that they put out! You can be a new photographer with a little bit of experience in wedding to start changing a couple, obviously you’re charging low and that’s what the couples expect, when you charge more the couple expects more. That’s how it works So you saying that’s an insult to the couple and I should have more respect, well you should too! Because we all started somewhere and people like you need to remember that, and be a good photographer and support new and up coming talent! Rant over

    • @thphoto2023
      @thphoto2023 2 дні тому

      @@gerardneedham First off, saying that weddings aren’t as important as other types of photography is a reflection of your attitude and not wedding photography itself. Weddings are huge milestones for couples, filled with moments and emotions that they’ll remember forever. Not treating them with the respect they deserve is a disservice to the couples who trust wedding photographers to capture their big day. Your argument seems to reflect a lack of experience in weddings and an understanding of what it truly takes to be a wedding photographer. Saying that wedding photographers have it easier suggests you’ve never had to apply yourself emotionally to bring out the best in another person. Wedding photography requires a lot of skill, dedication, and emotional intelligence. The idea that anyone can start charging low and increase prices as they go is misleading. While it’s true that everyone has to start somewhere, wedding photography requires a high level of skill and dedication from the outset. Couples deserve a photographer who takes their day seriously. This is about capturing memories that will last a lifetime, something that seems to be underestimated here. The notion that commercial photographers work harder than wedding photographers is simply not accurate. Wedding photography demands creativity, technical skill, and the ability to handle emotional and unique moments. It’s also highly unpredictable, which is not the case with commercial photography in most circumstances. Every wedding is different, and capturing these special days takes more than just experience; it takes a genuine respect for the event. Moreover, suggesting that couples expect less when paying lower prices shows a lack of respect for both clients and fellow photographers. It also reflects a misunderstanding of the expectations of couples who may not pay as much. Regardless of their budget, couples expect the best service and dedication from their wedding photographer. To assume that people expect less when they pay less is naive. Expectations remain high regardless of the investment, and photographers must be prepared to meet these expectations consistently. In your video, you don’t address the foundational experiences necessary for becoming a successful wedding photographer, such as carrying bags or being a second shooter. You literally say that to gain experience you should start with weddings, which oversimplifies the process and overlooks the importance of learning through assisting and observing experienced photographers. Weddings can’t be the starting point for a photographer because they can’t be redone if the photographer messes up the job. At least with portrait photography, if the results are not desirable, the photographer can arrange to redo the job. Redoing a commercial shoot involves the cost of the stylist (i.e., makeup and hair), possibly a Director of Photography, and studio hire, which in no way compares to the price and emotional cost of having to redo an entire wedding because you botched the wedding photos due to a lack of experience or respect necessary to do the collection justice for the couple. Supporting new talent is crucial, but it’s also important to instill a sense of respect and dedication to the craft. Wedding photography is a serious profession that should always be treated with the highest level of respect, for the sake of clients and the industry.
